Aging in Place is important to B'nai B'rith International (BBI) because it reinforces BBI's commitment to the autonomy of older adults. BBI is playing a role in advocating on behalf of Aging in Place initiatives and in educating older adults, their family members, and members of their community about this important concept, through a series of informative programs held in cities throughout the United States.
According to the National Aging in Place Council, Aging in Place is defined as, "The ability to continue to live in one's home safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level. It means living in a familiar environment and being able to participate in family and other community activities."
Most often, older adults only need assistance with a few of life's "basic" tasks to remain at home. BBI Aging in Place programs provide experts who explain alternatives. Experts detail how to "Age in Place" by modifying your existing home or involving a social service agency to help you stay in your home.
